HISTORY
History of the Department dates back to the 1950s when English was offered as a course in the first two years of the five year degree programme. With the formation of Anna University in 1978, the Department received greater recognition and status. It gained laudable significance in the publication of English course book English for Engineers & Technologists in two volumes in 1990 as a culmination of the KELT project. Another milestone in the history of the department is the establishment of Language Laboratory in 1989. In the year 2001, traditional Language Laboratory was upgraded to a computerised one. Language Lab was used to conduct international English Exams like TSE, TOEFL & ACCESS. The department has collaborated with State Institute of English, Government of Tamilnadu and organised training programmes for teachers in communicative language teaching and use of language laboratory. Department has been involved in production of materials which have won wide acclaim.

Gud afternoon mam,
Eventhough I'm not familiar with Hindi 'Taare Zameen Par' made me cry. The climax was really superb.Aamir Khan, debuting as director, and his creative team package the film, making a classic entertainer that does not bore a second at 18 reels.
Mr Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan), a colourful arts teacher who – rightly and vitally – believes that every child is special, whether physically- and mentally-challenged.
And in this lies hidden the great myth about , a disorder that found only in children with above-average intelligence, imagination and emotional quotient.
The boy delivers a performance that can only be called stupendous, and no doubt a few more words can be added from the Thesaurus. 'Taare Zaeen par' delights, touches, elevates, instructs and motivates both such children and adults who have to deal with such offsprings.
While the climax of "Chake De India" was set in a HOCKEY match, here it is in an art competition, but the effect is as rivetting and cheering. Ishaan, the underdog, the boy who is a ‘disgrace’ to his parents, school and orthodox teachers with his blunders, low marks and aggressive behaviour blooms into the hero of the day, all because of the motivated Nikumbh ‘Sir’ who treated him with compassion, sympathy and affection instead of beatings, criticisms and ridicule on him!
The film takes care to paint the parents, hassled from their own perspective, as real, believable people who are ignorant of the enormity of the problem and where it can lead the loveless Ishaan. Ishaan’s animation diary is the masterstroke in the film and the impact of Ishaan’s father’s second interaction with Nikumbh is another dramatic highpoint.
The kids are simply wonderful, especially Ishaan’s brother who unwittingly makes things worse by his all-round genius and Rajan, Ishaan’s best friend in class.
It's a film of which its makers and we as Indians can be truly proud. A film for every human being who realizes that the future of mankind lies in how he nurtures today’s children. If this film does not win any Best Film award this year, it will be the awards’ loss.

Good eviening mam,the filim 'Taree zameen par'was a fantastic movie.first i don't know hindi.but i can understand the movie. Ishaan, his performence very well. The relation between the amir khan and ishaan was superb. when i saw the movie every one was crying. Now wecan tock about the turning point of the flim is the arival of amir khan. The scene which I liked is that when the boy was left in the hostal and he was crying. The scene which I dont like is that when the boy was beaten by the teacher. Even the boy was too small he took a chalenging role and did a good job in the flim. The gift for his role is the BEST ACTOR AWARD.Though the boy did not have much diologues he was playing a good role in the flim.the graphis which was not real seems to be real.background of the flim is also a victory of the flim. ,The boy says to his parents "kya mine ithna boora hoon mine ma...", and "apko malum hai na ma.." that he did not do any wrong things to live without his parents and his brother. the boy's plus is his art and his minus(which is also a pius at the end )is his spealing. All of them in the flim were acting and not overacting.physicaly chalenged boy is the person(only person)who is talking with Ishaan in that school. The climax is the end of the flim but it is the beginning of the boy's career.Last but not least I wish a story like this should come in a tamil flim . I have to tell plus of that flim in this blog. The flim says that the talent comes not based on the age it is based on the skill of increasing the talent.final words:if you have not watched it yet, go and watch it.
